Legacy Model 3 Floor Pan — Same Shape for Seven Years, and Now Obsolete on Highland
The 2017–2023 Model 3 floor pan is the only footwell geometry most aftermarket mats were cut for — it stayed unchanged through seven production years. Then Highland reshaped the dead pedal, moved the under-seat HVAC vent, and shifted the rear footwell contour. Mats built for the old pan no longer fit Highland, and Highland-fit mats leave gaps on Legacy. Our nine Legacy-specific pieces are TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), tested at –40°F without cracking, hose-clean in under five minutes per mat, and available as 3-piece cabin sets, 4-piece with frunk, 6-piece full interior, plus standalone trunk and frunk liners. Price range $37.99–$249.99.
Buying Guide: Pick the Set By Coverage, Not Price
Decide how much of the interior you want waterproofed. A 3-piece TPE set ($149.99) covers the two front and one combined rear footwell — enough for daily commute protection. A 4-piece 3D set ($199.99) adds the frunk mat, which matters if you regularly haul groceries up front. A 6-piece full set ($238.99) adds trunk floor, trunk side-walls, and frunk — the option for owners who use the Model 3 as their only car. If you only need the trunk, the standalone 3D Cargo Liner ($79.99) or the frunk mat ($37.99) slot in independently. All pieces coexist — you can start 3-piece and add trunk later.
| Set | Coverage | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|

| TPE All-Weather Set + Trunk | Footwells + trunk liner | All-season drivers | $169.99 |
| 4PCS 3D Interior Set | Footwells + frunk | Front-cargo haulers | $199.99 |
| 6PCS 3D Full Set | Footwells + trunk + trunk walls + frunk | Single-car households | $238.99 |
Why TPE, and Why Not Highland Mats on a Legacy
TPE is the thermoplastic elastomer Tesla specs on the Cybertruck bed liner — flexible below freezing, rigid enough to hold anti-slip nibs, waterproof, UV-stable. Rubber cracks in cold; carpet holds salt and pet smell. Highland-fit mats leave gaps on Legacy because the dead pedal narrowed and the rear footwell shallowed by ~20 mm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a Highland-fit mat work on my 2022 Legacy Model 3?
No. Highland reshaped the front dead pedal area, repositioned the under-passenger HVAC vent, and made the rear footwell shallower. A Highland mat on a Legacy leaves a finger-width gap at the seat rail — water and road salt pool there and reach the floor-pan seam. Check your turn-signal stalks: physical stalks = Legacy, steering-wheel buttons = Highland. Every mat on this page is cut for Legacy only.
What's the difference between a 3-piece, 4-piece, and 6-piece set?
3-piece covers the two front footwells plus one combined rear footwell piece — the cabin basics. 4-piece adds the frunk mat for front-trunk protection. 6-piece adds trunk floor, trunk side-walls, and frunk on top of the 3-piece cabin set. Pick 3-piece for daily protection, 4-piece if you haul groceries up front, 6-piece for single-car full coverage.
Is the frunk mat included in the 6-piece, or is it a separate purchase?
Included. The 6-piece 3D Full Set ($238.99) bundles the front frunk mat together with the cabin footwells, trunk floor, trunk side-walls, and rear deck piece. The 4-piece Interior Set ($199.99) also includes the frunk. The 3-piece TPE set is footwells only — if you only need the frunk added, the standalone frunk mat at $37.99 is the cheapest route.
Can I machine wash TPE mats, or do I hose them off?
Hose them off — don't machine wash. TPE is waterproof so a garden hose plus a stiff brush and dish soap clears salt, road grit, and pet hair in about five minutes per mat. Machine washing stretches the raised anti-slip nibs and voids the warranty. Air-dry in the sun for 30 minutes before reinstalling; UV exposure firms the surface back up to factory spec.
How does TPE compare with OEM carpet and aftermarket rubber at –10°F?
TPE stays flexible at –40°F, so at –10°F it sits flush against the floor pan without cracking. Rubber stiffens and starts cracking near 0°F — we've seen aftermarket rubber mats split at the dead pedal during Midwest winters. OEM carpet holds salt and moisture, and you can't hose it clean. TPE is the only option that's both cold-stable and waterproof in the same material.
