Starlink Mini: Portable Satellite Internet With Full Specs

Starlink is putting its portable internet terminal back in the spotlight. The company's official account shared a fresh reminder this weekend that the Starlink Mini — its compact, carry-anywhere dish — is available now and built for exactly the kind of places where every other connection fails.

The Mini launched originally in June 2024 at $499, but the price has since dropped significantly. It now retails for $249, or $199 with an activation benefit for new customers. Starlink also offers a free Mini rental when you purchase a Standard kit on the Residential MAX plan — a notable deal if you're already in the ecosystem and want portable coverage as a secondary option.

On the hardware side, the Mini is genuinely compact: 298.5 x 259 x 38.5 mm and weighing just 1.1 kg without the kickstand. It runs on 25–40W average power, accepts 12–48V DC input, and carries an IP67 rating, meaning it handles dust and submersion. Wind resistance is rated up to 96 kph. The built-in router uses Wi-Fi 5 with 3x3 MU-MIMO, so you're not dependent on a separate router in the field. Max download speeds are advertised at 200–300+ Mbps, though real-world performance will vary by location and congestion.

Service plans are where you'll want to read carefully. The Mini is compatible with Roam plans ($55/month for 100GB, $80/month for 300GB, $175/month for unlimited) and with Local and Global Priority plans in most countries. It does not support standard Residential plans in most regions, so it's positioned as a mobile and remote-use device rather than a home broadband replacement.

For anyone regularly working or traveling off-grid — whether that's overlanding, boating, or remote job sites — the Mini's combination of size, price, and satellite coverage makes a compelling case that no other portable option currently matches at this price point.
