How to choose

Triage by model first, then by generation:

If you have a Model 3: for windshield, the 2017-2026 Model 3 & Y shades cross-fit Legacy and Highland. For glass roof on early Legacy 3 (2017-2020), the 2017-2020 Foldable 4PCS is sized to the early roof cutout. For side windows, the 2017-2026 Side Window Sunshade fits any Legacy or Highland 3. Highland-specific glass-roof shades will arrive as production catches up — the roof glass cutout changed slightly during the refresh.

If you have a Model Y: the 2017-2026 Windshield Sunshades fit Legacy Y (2020-2024) and Juniper Y (2025-2026) both. For Juniper side windows, the 2025-2026 Juniper-specific shade is required because Juniper got a redesigned side-glass profile. Legacy Y side-window and glass-roof shades are in the dedicated Model Y Accessories collection (we keep them grouped there because they're Y-specific, not multi-model).

I have a 2018 Model 3 — which sunshade fits?

The 2017-2020 Model 3 Glass Roof Sunshade (4PCS Foldable) fits early Legacy 3 (2017-2020) — Tesla used a slightly different roof glass cutout in those years. For windshield, the 2017-2026 Model 3 & Y Windshield Sunshade (Foldable Silver Reflective or Nano Ice Crystal Creamy White) fits any Legacy or Highland 3. For side windows, the 2017-2026 Model 3 Side Window Sunshade (Privacy & Camping) fits any 3 regardless of generation.

Will a Model 3 sunshade fit my Model Y?

The 2017-2026 Model 3 & Model Y Windshield Sunshades are dual-fit — they cover both Legacy 3 (2017-2023), Highland 3 (2024+), Legacy Y (2020-2024), and Juniper Y (2025+) windshield shapes. Windshield rake angle and width are nearly identical between 3 and Y. Side-window and glass-roof shades are model-specific because the roof glass and side glass openings differ between sedan (3) and SUV (Y).

I drive a 2024 Model S — what fits?

The 2021-2026 Model S Windshield Sunshade (Foldable, UV Protection) fits any 2021+ Refresh Model S including 2024 Plaid. For Pre-Refresh Model S (2012-2020), we don't list a windshield shade in this collection — the Pre-Refresh dashboard and windshield rake are different. Email us if you have a Pre-Refresh S; we keep some legacy fitment SKUs separately.

Do these shades work on Highland Model 3 and Juniper Model Y?

Yes — the 2017-2026 windshield shades fit Highland and Juniper. The 2025-2026 Juniper Side Window Sunshade is Juniper-specific because Juniper's side glass opening was redesigned. Glass-roof shades for Highland and Juniper are sold separately because the roof glass cutouts changed shape — we'll add those SKUs as production catches up.

Can I stack a windshield shade and a side-window shade?

Absolutely — that's the recommended camping or full-day-parking setup. The windshield shade handles solar gain through the front glass; side-window shades block visibility (privacy) and reduce dawn-light wake-ups. Together with a glass-roof shade you get the full Camp Mode enclosure. They stack flat in the front trunk or under the rear seat for storage.

Are these sunshades safe for Camp Mode overnight use?

Side-window and glass-roof shades are designed for camping use. They block visibility from outside (privacy), reduce condensation from morning sun, and reflect heat away from sleeping passengers. Don't leave windshield shades on overnight if you're using Camp Mode — Tesla's climate sensor reads ambient temperature through the windshield, and a shade tricks it into running the AC harder than needed.

Nano ice-crystal vs reflective foil — which is better?

For UV blocking they're equivalent (both ~99%). Nano ice-crystal beats foil on IR rejection (95% vs 85%) and looks more premium against the dashboard. Foil is half the price and folds flatter. If you're buying one shade for occasional summer use, foil works. If you live in Phoenix/Vegas/Miami and shade the car daily, ice-crystal pays back in cabin comfort and material durability.

Tesla Sunshade Buyer's Guide — Surfaces, Materials, Fitment & Install

A Tesla's all-glass greenhouse is a design signature, but it comes with a thermal bill. On a 95°F day, an uncovered Model 3 or Model Y cabin can reach roughly 140°F within about an hour of parking in direct sun, and the fixed glass roof alone absorbs a large share of that solar load because glass covers close to 30% of the Model 3 / Model Y greenhouse area. A sunshade is the cheapest, fastest way to take that heat back out of the cabin — but only if you buy the right surface, in the right material, cut for your exact model and generation. Step 1 — Choose the surface you actually need to cover

The single most common buying mistake is grabbing a windshield shade and expecting the whole cabin to cool down. Each glass surface on a Tesla behaves differently, blocks a different portion of the solar load, and has different rules about whether it can stay in while you drive. Match the surface to your real problem first — heat, glare, privacy, or overnight blackout — then pick a material in Step 2.

Step 2 — Choose the material & technology

Once you know the surface, the material decides how much heat and UV actually get rejected, how the shade looks against your interior, and what you pay. How to read this table: UV protection is essentially solved across all of our materials — every one blocks the vast majority of UV, which is what fades your dashboard, cracks trim, and ages upholstery. The real differentiator is infrared (radiant heat) rejection, which is what you feel as cabin temperature. Nano Ice Crystal leads on IR and looks the most premium; reflective foil gives you most of the heat benefit for the least money but shows a shiny face; double-layer is the rigid choice for the big Model S/X windshields; and privacy mesh is a visibility product first — don't buy mesh expecting a big temperature drop. Step 3 — Match your exact model AND generation (this is where returns happen)

Windshield shades are forgiving: the windshield rake and width barely changed between Tesla generations, so a 2017–2026 Model 3 & Model Y windshield shade genuinely cross-fits Legacy Model 3, Highland Model 3, Legacy Model Y, and Juniper Model Y. Glass-roof and side-window shades are the opposite — Tesla redesigned those openings during the mid-cycle refreshes, so a Legacy part will sag, gap, or simply not clip in on a refreshed car. The heat science — why a Tesla cabin bakes, and what a shade changes

Sunlight reaching your car is a mix of visible light, ultraviolet (UV), and infrared (IR). UV is the invisible band that fades and cracks your interior over months and years. IR is the band you feel as heat within minutes. A Tesla's glass roof and tall windshield let a large amount of both into the cabin, where the energy converts to heat and gets trapped — the greenhouse effect. Because glass makes up close to a third of the Model 3 / Model Y greenhouse area and the roof sits directly overhead, the roof is the single largest contributor to that trapped heat; on a hot day it can soak up 40% or more of the incoming solar load. That's why a roof shade delivers the biggest single temperature drop, and why owners who only shade the windshield still climb into a hot car. A good shade reflects UV and IR back out before they enter the cabin, which is far more effective than trying to cool the air afterward with the A/C. Installation — no tools, no drilling, no adhesive

Every BASENOR sunshade installs by hand in minutes and leaves no residue. Nothing here requires tools, tape, or drilling.

• Windshield shade: unfold it against the glass, tuck the top edge behind the rear-view mirror and the sides against the A-pillars, and drop the sun visors to pin the corners. To remove, twist-fold it back down to about the size of a dinner plate and stow it in the frunk wall pocket or trunk well.
• Glass-roof shade (4-piece): press each panel up into the roof trim channel so the edges tuck under the headliner lip — the panels hold by tension with no gaps. Roof shades can stay in place while you drive; they don't touch the windshield camera. To store, fold the panels into the included zip bag.
• Side-window shade: the flexible steel frame lets you bow the shade slightly and pop it into the window recess, where it springs flat for a 1:1 fit; magnetic-edge versions simply snap to the door frame. Cleaning, care & storage

Sunshades last for years if you treat the fabric gently and store them flat or folded rather than crushed.

• Nano Ice Crystal & double-layer fabric: wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap; air-dry fully before folding. Skip the washing machine and dryer — heat and agitation can delaminate the reflective core.
• Reflective foil: wipe the foil face with a soft damp cloth; avoid creasing it hard in the same spot repeatedly, which can crack the reflective layer over time.
• Privacy mesh: brush off dust and spot-clean; the flexible steel frame tolerates repeated bowing, but store it flat so the frame keeps its shape.
• Storage: twist-fold windshield shades collapse flat and live happily in the frunk pocket or trunk well; keep 4-piece roof sets in their zip bag in the sub-trunk; don't leave shades wadded under a seat where the frame can take a set.

Do sunshades help in winter, or only summer?

They help year-round. In winter a windshield or roof shade slows overnight heat loss and reduces frost buildup on the inside of the glass, so you spend less time defrosting. UV protection is a year-round benefit too — winter sun still fades interiors.

Are sunshades legal to drive with?

Windshield and front side-window shades must come out before you drive — they block the driver's view and violate traffic codes in most US states. Glass-roof shades and rear side-window shades can stay installed while driving because they don't obstruct forward vision or the windshield-mounted camera.

Will magnetic or framed side shades scratch or damage the windows?

No. Side shades seat against the trim and glass with a flexible steel frame or magnetic edge; there's no adhesive and no hard contact point that abrades the glass. Just make sure the glass is clean before fitting so grit isn't trapped between the shade and the window.

Do sunshades work over factory-tinted glass?

Yes, and they complement tint. Factory tint and IR-coated glass reduce some heat but only block part of the radiant load — a shade adds a reflective layer that stops far more IR before it enters the cabin. That's why even owners with tinted or acoustic glass still see a meaningful temperature drop from a roof shade.

How long does a sunshade last?

With gentle cleaning and flat or folded storage, expect years of service. The most common failure isn't the fabric wearing out — it's a reflective foil layer cracking from being creased hard in the same spot, or a frame taking a set from being crushed under a seat. Store it properly and it holds up.

Is a retractable / built-in roof shade worth it over a foldable set?

It depends on how often you install and remove it. Foldable 4-piece sets are cheaper, pack smaller, and reject slightly more heat; retractable designs trade a little peak performance for one-touch convenience.
