Tesla's electric Class 8 truck is finally coming to Europe. On September 11, Tesla Europe, Middle East & Africa officially unveiled the European specification of the Tesla Semi, launched a dedicated regional website, and confirmed that customer deliveries will begin in 2027. The reveal comes just days before the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hannover (September 15–20), where Tesla is expected to show the truck in person and provide additional market-launch details.
The European Semi shares its architecture with the U.S. version now rolling off the high-volume line adjacent to Gigafactory Nevada, but it has been reworked for European regulations and duty cycles — most visibly with the removal of traditional side mirrors, and less visibly with a range figure calibrated for the continent's stricter 40-tonne gross combination weight limit.

The Headline Specs
Tesla Europe published a tight set of numbers built around real-world European trucking operations. Unlike the U.S. spec sheet, which is anchored to a 500-mile Long Range figure at 82,000 lb gross combination weight, the European figures are quoted at a fully loaded 40 tonnes — the standard maximum GCW across most of the EU.

The 1 kWh/km energy consumption figure is arguably the most important number on the sheet. For a fully loaded 40-tonne combination, that is a benchmark diesel operators have historically only dreamed about matching in electric equivalency — and it directly determines the total cost of ownership case Tesla will make to European fleets.
What's Different From the U.S. Semi
Sawyer Merritt was quick to flag the most visible changes on the European variant compared with the trucks currently being delivered to U.S. customers like PepsiCo and Frito-Lay.

Three exterior changes stand out:
- No traditional side mirrors. The European Semi uses camera-based rear-view systems, which are now permitted (and, for aerodynamic-heavy vehicles, actively encouraged) under EU vehicle regulations. This is a meaningful drag reduction on a truck whose entire efficiency case depends on aero.
- New headlight signature. The front lighting has been redesigned and, as multiple observers noted, closely resembles the fixture used on the Model Y Standard. It is a visual break from the U.S. Semi's original horizontal light bar.
- Regulatory-tuned proportions. The 9,100 kg curb weight and 40-tonne GCW are set to European Directive limits rather than U.S. FHWA figures, which affects payload calculations for logistics operators.

Under the skin, the powertrain architecture appears carried over: three independent rear-axle motors, autonomous driving hardware with ten external cameras and an interior cabin camera, and a central driving position with dual 16-inch touchscreens, according to Tesla's specifications published on the European site and corroborated by Teslarati and Electrek.
The Charging Question

Peak charging is quoted at 800 kW, with roughly 60% of range recovered in 30 minutes. That aligns the Semi with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard now being deployed across European heavy-duty charging corridors — a critical detail, because MCS is the standard that European fleets, TEN-T corridor projects, and competing OEMs (Daimler Truck, Volvo, MAN, Scania) are all planning around.
What Tesla hasn't yet detailed is the European Megacharger deployment schedule. In the U.S., the Megacharger network is still highly concentrated around anchor customers and Gigafactory Nevada. For a 2027 delivery start, Tesla will need to publish a credible European charging build-out plan — either its own Megachargers, partner MCS sites, or both — well before the first trucks arrive.
What It Means for European Fleets
The European heavy-duty EV market is materially different from the U.S. one. Daimler Truck's eActros 600, Volvo's FH Electric, MAN's eTGX, and Renault Trucks' E-Tech T are already in customer hands, with 500+ km range figures at 40 tonnes and MCS compatibility on the roadmap. Tesla is arriving into a market that has moved substantially since the Semi was first unveiled in 2017.
That said, the 1 kWh/km efficiency figure, if verified in customer operations, would be class-leading. The Semi's aerodynamic profile, three-motor architecture, and integrated software stack — including the same autonomy hardware Tesla ships on its passenger cars — give it a differentiated pitch that European incumbents will need to answer.
A few things Tesla has not disclosed yet, and that fleet operators will need before they can commit:
- European pricing. Not published on the new site.
- Long Range variant. The U.S. Semi is offered with a 500-mile/805 km Long Range option built around an 822 kWh battery. The European site currently only lists the 550 km configuration.
- Production location for European units. Tesla's high-volume Semi line began production at the Nevada facility on April 29, 2026, with a 50,000-unit annual target. Whether European trucks will be exported from Nevada or eventually produced in-region has not been announced.
- Homologation and market-by-market approval timeline. A 2027 delivery start implies EU whole-vehicle type approval work is well underway, but Tesla has not published a country rollout order.
What to Watch Next
IAA Transportation opens in Hannover on September 15. Expect Tesla to use the show for a physical unveil, additional configuration details, and — potentially — early reservation or letter-of-intent announcements with named European logistics operators. Pricing, the Long Range variant question, and the Megacharger rollout plan are the three data points that will determine whether the Semi arrives in Europe as a serious contender or as a late entrant into an already-crowded segment.
For now, the message is simpler: the Semi is officially a European product, the website is live, and the countdown to 2027 deliveries has started.
