ATC Logistics Orders 20 Tesla Semis: What You Need to Know

ATC Logistics is swapping out 11 diesel day-cab semi-trucks for 20 Tesla Semis, with operations set to launch out of a purpose-built charging depot in Rancho Dominguez, California. The deal, reported on July 13, 2026, pairs long-range Tesla Semis with one of the most capable charging facilities yet built for commercial electric trucking — and both the trucks and the depot are targeting an early 2027 go-live.

Who is ATC Logistics, and what are they replacing?

ATC Logistics is a freight and supply chain operator that currently runs diesel day-cab semi-trucks for regional distribution. Under this transition, 11 of those diesel trucks are being retired entirely — replaced by a fleet of 20 Tesla Semis. The net addition of nine trucks suggests ATC is also expanding capacity alongside electrifying, not just doing a straight swap.

Where will these trucks operate?

All 20 Tesla Semis will be based out of Forum Mobility's FM Santa Fe depot in Rancho Dominguez, a city in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Forum Mobility is a commercial EV charging infrastructure company focused specifically on heavy-duty trucking corridors. The FM Santa Fe location is being built as a dedicated charging hub for electric semi operations in the region.

What kind of charging infrastructure will the depot have?

According to reporting from evwire.com, the FM Santa Fe facility will feature 14 lanes of ultra-fast pull-through Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers. MCS is the next-generation charging standard designed for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, capable of delivering charging speeds far beyond what standard DC fast chargers provide. Pull-through lane design is significant for trucking operations — it means drivers can charge without unhitching or repositioning a trailer, which directly reduces dwell time and keeps routes on schedule.

When does everything launch?

Both the FM Santa Fe depot and ATC Logistics' Tesla Semi fleet are targeting an early 2027 launch. According to evwire.com, the depot is specifically expected to come online in Q1 2027. That timeline aligns with Tesla's ongoing Semi production ramp, which has been scaling through 2025 and 2026 ahead of broader commercial fleet deployments.

Why does this deal matter beyond ATC Logistics?

This order is another data point in the accelerating commercial adoption of the Tesla Semi. Pairing a fleet order with dedicated MCS charging infrastructure — rather than relying on existing Supercharger or third-party networks — signals that large operators are building the full ecosystem required for electric semi economics to work at scale. For the Tesla Semi program broadly, each new committed fleet operator adds to the utilization case that justifies further production investment. The Southern California logistics corridor, one of the busiest freight zones in North America, is an especially visible proving ground.
