Tesla App 4.62 for Foldables, Explained in 5 Points

After nearly a decade of Android foldable devices existing without proper Tesla app support, version 4.62 changes that — at least mostly. The update delivers a redesigned two-column interface built for larger screens, but early hands-on reports reveal the experience isn't fully automatic yet. Here's what foldable owners need to know.

1. Nine years in the making

Android foldables have been on the market since 2019, and Tesla's app spent all that time serving up a stretched phone layout on devices that deserved better. According to Tesla UI designer Alex Guichet, who confirmed the rollout on X, the app is now "finally on the big screens you bring around with you." The update began rolling out with version 4.62.0 on October 21, 2026, followed by 4.62.3 the next day. It's a gradual deployment — Guichet noted it may take "an extra week or two for everyone to get it."

2. The new layout is genuinely different

This isn't a simple scaling fix. The redesigned interface splits into two columns: navigation and controls sit on the left, while a larger, more detailed vehicle visualization occupies the right — similar in style to what you'd see on the in-car display. Direct action buttons for the frunk, trunk, charge port, and door locks are built into that visualization. A "Show PSI" button for tire pressures is also integrated directly into the vehicle rendering, which is a useful placement for a quick status check.

3. Major app sections are optimized, not just stretched

According to driveteslacanada.ca, key sections including Climate, Location, Self-Driving, Summon, and Charging have all been reworked to take advantage of the larger canvas — not simply reflowed from the phone layout. Tesla Energy owners also benefit: the app now displays electricity flow between solar installations, Powerwall, home, and grid in an expanded view. That's a meaningful upgrade for anyone managing home energy on a foldable.

4. You still have to rotate manually — for now

Here's the catch that @DirtyTesLa flagged immediately after updating. Even on a device with a near 1:1 screen ratio when unfolded, the optimized landscape layout doesn't engage automatically — you have to physically rotate the phone to trigger it. The portrait view without rotation still defaults to the old phone-style layout.

The good news: the app now adjusts on the fly when you do rotate, without requiring a restart — something that was reportedly broken in earlier versions. That's progress, even if full automatic adaptation to the unfolded state isn't there yet.

5. Guichet says more refinements are coming

Tesla's UI designer acknowledged the rollout is gradual and flagged that further refinements are planned for future updates. That suggests the manual-rotation limitation is a known rough edge, not a deliberate design choice. For foldable owners who've been waiting years for any acknowledgment from Tesla, version 4.62 is a real step forward — just not the final one. If you haven't received it yet, check the App Store or Google Play and allow another week or two for the server-side rollout to reach your account.
