Tesla Optimus Returning to the Hollywood Diner This Thursday

Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot is heading back to the Tesla Diner in Hollywood this Thursday, according to Whole Mars Catalog. The appearance follows a confirmed visit on March 31, 2026, when a visually distinct "black Optimus unit" was spotted autonomously delivering food directly to cars at the Supercharger stalls — a step up from its original popcorn-serving role at the diner's opening last July.

The Tesla Diner on Santa Monica Boulevard opened in July 2025 with a retro-futuristic concept, 75–80 V4 Supercharger stalls, and two 45-foot LED movie screens. Optimus was part of the venue from day one — a Gen 2 unit nicknamed "Poptimus" handed out popcorn to guests during the soft opening. By March 2026, the robot had graduated to full food-runner duties, delivering orders autonomously to charging customers.

Thursday's appearance will likely feature the Gen 3 Optimus, which Tesla began mass-producing at the Fremont factory in January 2026. The Gen 3 is a meaningful hardware leap: its hands have 22 degrees of freedom per hand compared to the Gen 2's 11, and it runs on Tesla's AI5 chip with Grok-powered voice interaction. Tesla's 2026 production target sits between 50,000 and 100,000 units, with a long-term price goal under $20,000. If you're in the Los Angeles area and want to see the most capable version of Optimus in a real-world public setting, Thursday at the diner is your best opportunity yet.
