Tesla Adds $2,000 Trade-In Bonus for Model 3 & Y in Australia and NZ

Tesla Australia and New Zealand has launched a $2,000 trade-in bonus for customers buying a new or demonstrator Model 3 or Model Y. The incentive — valid through December 31, 2026 — stacks on top of whatever trade-in value Tesla assesses for your existing vehicle, effectively lowering the out-of-pocket cost of switching into a new Tesla.

How the Bonus Works

The $2,000 is applied on top of the assessed trade-in value — not as a replacement for it. So if Tesla values your current car at $18,000, you walk away with $20,000 toward your new Model 3 or Y. For buyers financing through a loan or novated lease, the bonus can alternatively be issued as a post-delivery cash back rather than a direct price reduction.

The trade-in vehicle must be validly registered and in legally drivable condition at the time of handover. One bonus per order — you can't stack multiple trade-ins to multiply the incentive. Business customers, including fleet, enterprise, rental, and government buyers, are excluded.

What's Eligible

Both the Model 3 and Model Y qualify — new and demonstrator stock. The offer is available across Australia and New Zealand. Customers need to both order and take delivery by December 31, 2026, to lock in the bonus. Trade-in estimates can be requested directly through Tesla's website.

The Broader Picture

The timing is worth noting. Tesla has been navigating a softer demand environment in several markets, and targeted trade-in incentives are a well-worn lever for pulling forward purchases from buyers who already own a vehicle — the most likely pool of upgrade candidates. A $2,000 sweetener won't move someone who was never going to buy, but it can tip the decision for an existing ICE or even older EV owner sitting on the fence.

The offer also arrives alongside an already-improved ownership proposition: all new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered from January 1, 2026, come with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre Basic Limited Vehicle Warranty — up from the previous four-year or 80,000 km coverage. That warranty upgrade was a structural improvement; the trade-in bonus is a time-limited sales push. Together, they make the current buying window in the region arguably the most compelling it's been.

Whether the incentive signals broader pressure on AUNZ sales volumes or is simply a routine mid-year push ahead of the end-of-year delivery sprint remains to be seen. Tesla doesn't break out regional delivery figures at this granularity. What's clear is that the window is open until year-end — owners in Australia and New Zealand with a trade-in sitting in the driveway have a concrete reason to run the numbers now rather than wait.
