Tesla Charging has officially announced the return of its Free Supercharging Competition for 2026 — and this year, nine Tesla owners worldwide stand to win free Supercharging for as long as they own their vehicle. If you've been putting miles on the Supercharger network this year, you may already be in the running without knowing it.

How many winners are there, and how are they selected?
Nine winners will be chosen in total. Tesla divides the world into three regions — Americas, Asia-Pacific (excluding China, which runs its own separate competition), and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa, with some country exclusions due to local regulations). Within each region, one winner is crowned in each of three categories: longest trip, most unique Supercharger sites visited, and most total energy charged in kWh. Win one category, and you're ineligible for the others.
What exactly are the three categories?
The categories reward different styles of road tripping:
- Longest Trip: The longest continuous streak of unique Supercharger locations visited, where each new site must be visited within 24 hours of the previous session's start time.
- Most Unique Supercharger Sites Visited: The highest number of distinct Supercharger locations visited at any point during 2026.
- Most Energy Supercharged: The highest total kWh charged at Superchargers across the full year.
If there's a tie in any category, the participant with the most total energy charged overall breaks it.

The announcement came in June — did I miss the start?
No. Tesla has been counting sessions since January 1, 2026. Every Supercharger session from 00:01 local time on January 1 through 23:59 local time on December 31, 2026, counts toward the competition. The announcement being made mid-year doesn't disqualify the miles you've already put in — your 2026 Supercharging history is already on the board.
What do I need to do to actually enter?
Enrollment doesn't open until December 2026, when Tesla launches the 2026 Passport feature inside the Tesla app. To be eligible, you'll need to:
- Download the latest version of the Tesla app.
- Enable the Share Charging Data with Tesla App toggle in your vehicle settings — do this now if you haven't already.
- Open the 2026 Passport section in the Tesla app before January 1, 2027 (the enrollment deadline).
Winners will be notified by email in January 2027, and free Supercharging will be applied to the winning vehicle before March 1, 2027.
What's the actual prize worth?
Winners receive free Supercharging for their Tesla for as long as they own the vehicle — the same lifetime perk that early Model S and Model X buyers received. The prize is tied to both the specific vehicle and the owner's Tesla Account, so it cannot be transferred and is revoked if the car is sold or a lease ends. One catch: congestion fees and other Supercharging-related charges may still apply, and the credits are only valid at Tesla-owned Supercharger sites.
Who is NOT eligible?
Vehicles that already have free Supercharging, commercial-use vehicles, and Tesla employees are excluded. Certain countries within the EMEA region are also excluded due to local regulations — including Italy, Portugal, Greece, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Poland, Iceland, Estonia, and Qatar. China runs its own independent competition entirely.
The most actionable thing any eligible owner can do right now is verify that the Share Charging Data with Tesla App setting is enabled in their vehicle. Your sessions are already being logged — make sure Tesla can see them. Winners will be announced publicly on the @TeslaCharging account on X when January 2027 rolls around.
