Tesla has quietly made two of the Model Y's most-requested interior upgrades standard across every configuration in the U.S. and Canada. As of June 5, 2026, both the base RWD and the AWD variants now ship with a larger 16-inch QHD center touchscreen and a black headliner — features that were previously reserved for higher trims or certain markets.

What Changed
The two upgrades are straightforward but meaningful for anyone who has spent time in an older Model Y interior:
- 16-inch QHD center touchscreen — Replaces the previous 15.4-inch display. The new screen runs at 2560×1440 resolution with thinner bezels and noticeably higher contrast. It's a tangible improvement in daily use, not just a spec-sheet bump.
- Black headliner — The light grey headliner that shipped on base trims has been retired. All U.S. and Canadian Model Y orders now include the darker Alcantara-style finish, which most owners consider a cleaner, more premium look.

According to @SawyerMerritt, the base $39,990 Model Y RWD and the $41,990 Model Y AWD are both confirmed to include these features as standard. That's the full U.S. lineup covered.

What to Do If You're Buying
If you're placing a new order today, these features are already included — no configuration toggle needed. A few things worth knowing before you finalize:
- Check your screen protector compatibility. If you've been planning to order a screen protector ahead of delivery, confirm it's designed for the 16-inch display. Protectors cut for the old 15.4-inch screen will not fit.
- Verify your order confirmation. Log into your Tesla account and confirm the build summary reflects the 16-inch display and black headliner. Given that Tesla's website had a brief spec discrepancy earlier this year with the RWD trim, it's worth a double-check.
- Existing owners are not affected. These are production changes for new builds only. There is no retrofit path for the screen, and the headliner swap is not a standard service offering.
These upgrades had already rolled out in China before January 2026 and reached Canadian ordering pages officially in late February. The U.S. market completing the rollout now closes the loop on a refresh that's been in motion for months — and means the entry-level Model Y is now a meaningfully better-equipped car than it was a year ago without a price increase.
