Tesla Powerwall 3 Registrations Now Open in Japan

Tesla Energy is moving into Japan. The company has opened registrations for customers interested in installing the Powerwall 3, with the home battery system officially slated to launch in the country sometime in 2026. It's a meaningful step for a market that has one of the world's highest rates of residential solar adoption — and where demand for reliable home storage has been growing steadily.

The Powerwall 3 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor. Unlike the Powerwall 2, it's a fully integrated solar and battery system with a built-in inverter — meaning it handles both solar input and battery storage in a single unit, simplifying installation and improving overall efficiency. The system stores 13.5 kWh of usable energy and can discharge at up to 11.5 kW continuously, enough to run most Japanese homes through an outage or peak-rate period. It supports up to 20 kW DC of solar input across six MPPTs and can be stacked up to four units for a maximum of 40.5 kWh of total capacity. The battery chemistry is Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), which prioritizes longevity and thermal stability — both relevant considerations in Japan's climate. Tesla backs it with a 10-year warranty.

Pricing for Japan has not been confirmed. Tesla's Japanese support page currently lists the launch date and price as undetermined, though the 2026 window appears firm. For context, a single Powerwall 3 in the US is priced at around $11,450 before delivery and installation. Japanese pricing will likely reflect local market conditions, import costs, and any applicable incentives. Tesla Japan is also actively recruiting certified installation partners ahead of the rollout, which suggests the company is building out the infrastructure needed for a proper commercial launch rather than a soft release.

If you're in Japan and want to get ahead of the queue, registrations are open now through Tesla's Japanese website. The sign-up captures interest for installation consultations once the product officially goes on sale — it doesn't lock in a price or commit you to a purchase. Given how quickly Tesla Energy products tend to book out in new markets, registering early is worth doing if home storage is on your radar for 2026.
