Tesla VPP Programs Expand to Philadelphia, New Orleans, and East Texas

Tesla Energy has expanded its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs to Philadelphia, New Orleans, and East Texas — giving Powerwall owners in those regions a new way to earn money by sharing stored energy back to the grid. The announcement, made directly by @teslaenergy, points to the scale already built into the network: millions of Powerwalls installed across the country represent gigawatts of untapped grid capacity.

VPP programs work by enrolling your Powerwall in a utility-coordinated demand-response system. During peak grid stress events, Tesla's software draws on enrolled batteries to supply power — and participating homeowners receive compensation in return. The homeowner retains control over minimum reserve settings, so your backup capacity isn't sacrificed without your consent.

If you own a Powerwall in one of the newly covered areas, check the Tesla app under EnergyPrograms to see if your utility partnership is live and enrollment is open. Eligibility can depend on your local utility, so availability may vary even within the listed regions.
