Tesla's official Cybertruck account put the spotlight back on one of the truck's most underappreciated features this week: the Vault. More than just a truck bed, it's a purpose-built secure storage system — and the specs behind it are worth knowing if you're hauling anything valuable.

The Vault's security comes primarily from its powered tonneau cover, built from the same 30X cold-rolled stainless steel as the truck's exoskeleton. When the Walk-Away Door Lock feature is active, the tonneau locks automatically — meaning your tools and gear are secured the moment you walk away from the truck, no manual step required. The cover is rated to hold up to 300 lbs of load on top of it.
Below the main bed sits a sealed under-bed storage compartment with a 220 lb capacity and a built-in drain plug — useful for storing ice or water alongside gear. The bed itself measures 72.9 inches long by 51 inches wide, with eight internal anchor points, four corner tie-downs, and optional L-track rails along each side wall for flexible cargo securing. For owners who need to run equipment on-site, the Vault also includes both 120V and 240V power outlets built into the bed.
It's a practical combination that most traditional truck beds don't offer: the storage capacity of a full-size pickup, the security of a lockable enclosure, and the power access of a mobile workstation — all in one. If you haven't explored the Walk-Away auto-lock behavior yet, it's worth confirming it's enabled in your vehicle settings so the Vault is actually doing its job every time you step away.
