Grok Voice Is Live: xAI's AI Assistant Now Talks Back

Elon Musk dropped a two-word announcement early Wednesday morning — 'Try Grok Voice' — and that was enough. xAI's conversational AI assistant now supports spoken interaction, letting users talk to Grok and receive verbal responses instead of typing back and forth. It's a meaningful shift in how people engage with the platform, and it's available now.

Grok Voice has been in development for some time. According to background reporting, xAI first hinted at voice capabilities in mid-2025, with the initiative gradually expanding to include dedicated APIs and a more advanced voice agent architecture. What Musk announced today appears to be the public-facing rollout — the moment the feature moves from internal testing to something any user can actually try.

For Tesla owners already using Grok through the X integration or the standalone app, voice interaction is a natural next step. The ability to speak a question and hear an answer hands-free is exactly the kind of workflow that fits inside a car — or anywhere you'd rather not type. Whether this eventually connects more deeply with Tesla's in-vehicle assistant remains to be seen, but the groundwork is clearly being laid.

To try it, head to the Grok app or grok.com and look for the voice input option. The feature appears to be live for users now, based on Musk's direct prompt to try it. If you run into availability limits, it may still be rolling out in stages across regions and account tiers.
