Tesla Cuts Model 3 Prices in Canada, Adds New Premium RWD Trim

📌 UPDATE — May 2, 2026

Tesla North America has announced another price cut for the Model 3 Premium RWD in Canada, now starting at CAD $42,132 — up from the previously reported $39,490 launch price, though Tesla is calling this "the most affordable it's ever been," suggesting a configuration or trim adjustment may be behind the difference. 🔍 The announcement was made simultaneously in English and French, signalling a broad national push. No changes to the Long Range or Performance variants were mentioned in this update.

Tesla has quietly reshuffled its Model 3 lineup in Canada, introducing a new entry-level Premium RWD trim and delivering a significant price cut on the Performance variant — all effective as of May 1, 2026. If you've been on the fence about a Model 3 north of the border, the math just changed.

The headline number is the new Model 3 Premium RWD starting at $39,490 CAD — roughly $29,000 USD at current exchange rates. That's a meaningful entry point for a market where Tesla pricing has historically skewed higher. The trim name itself reflects a broader 2026 rebranding: what was previously called the Long Range RWD is now the Premium RWD, and the Long Range AWD becomes simply the Premium AWD.

The bigger shock for existing shoppers is the Model 3 Performance dropping 17% — from $89,990 CAD to $74,990 CAD, a $15,000 reduction. The Performance still packs Tesla's latest-generation drive unit producing 460 horsepower, a 0–100 km/h sprint of 3.1 seconds, an adaptive damping suspension, and upgraded brakes. At the new price, the gap between the Performance and the Premium trims narrows considerably, which could push a lot of buyers to stretch.

There's also a supply-chain angle worth watching. Earlier this year, Tesla began transitioning Canadian Model 3 inventory toward Shanghai-built units, which qualify for a lower 6.1% import duty under a January 2026 trade agreement. That shift in sourcing is likely part of what's enabling these lower sticker prices — and could signal further adjustments as the refreshed inventory fully rolls in.

If you're a Canadian Tesla shopper, head directly to tesla.com/en_ca to confirm current pricing in your province, since freight, PDI, and applicable fees vary by region. The window to lock in today's pricing is always uncertain — Tesla has a history of adjusting prices without notice in either direction.
