Neither source has been independently verified, and Tesla has not made an official announcement.
Context matters here. The Austin service launched in June 2025 and has been operating in a constrained geofence — city streets only, no freeway segments. Unlocking freeway access would dramatically increase the practical range of each ride, making the service genuinely useful for cross-city trips rather than short urban hops. Houston and Dallas have seen similar limitations since their respective launches.
