Tesla Swaps Deep Blue Metallic for Two New Blues in the US

Tesla quietly refreshed its US color lineup earlier this month, retiring the long-running Deep Blue Metallic option and replacing it with two distinct blues — one for standard trims, one for Performance. If you're configuring a Model 3 or Model Y right now, here's what you need to know before you click.

According to Tesla's updated North American configurator — which changed on May 8, 2026 — Marine Blue is now the go-to blue for Model Y and Model 3 RWD and Long Range AWD Premium variants. It's a deep, metallic oceanic shade that had already been available in Europe and Asia-Pacific markets, now finally landing stateside. The price: $1,000 USD, the same as most non-white color upgrades.

Performance buyers get something different. Frost Blue Metallic — a lighter, icy metallic that was previously reserved for Model S and Model X — is now the exclusive blue for Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance trims in the US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Notably, it's offered at no extra cost on those trims.

Deep Blue Metallic, which had been part of Tesla's palette for over eight years, has been phased out globally for new orders. It's a meaningful shift — that color had become one of the more recognizable options in Tesla's lineup, and its replacement with two trim-specific alternatives signals a more deliberate approach to color differentiation across the range.

Whether Marine Blue's richer tone or Frost Blue's cooler contrast appeals more will come down to personal taste — but the choice is now made for you based on which variant you configure. Performance buyers don't get Marine Blue, and standard-trim buyers don't get Frost Blue. Tesla has effectively made the color part of the trim identity.
