Starship Tower-1 Mast Removed for New Roof Section at Starbase

What's Actually Happening at Tower-1

The mast removal is not an isolated maintenance task — it's one visible step in a comprehensive rebuild of Pad 1 that has been accelerating since late 2025. According to background reporting on the site's progress, demolition work at Pad 1 has been ramping up to construct a more advanced pad with updated designs capable of handling the Block 3 Starship architecture.

The sequence matters: as far back as November 2025, the roof over the chopstick drawworks hoist at the base of Tower 1 was pulled for reconfiguration. Major sections of the original launch mount and related hardware followed. Now the upper structure is getting the same treatment, with the mast coming down to allow the new roof section to go in.

The Block 3 Connection

The underlying driver for all of this work is Block 3 Starship. The upgraded vehicle architecture is built around faster turnaround times and more reliable tower catches — neither of which is achievable with the original Pad 1 infrastructure in its current form. New maintenance platform lines have already been installed running from the top of the tower down its four columns, signaling that the structural work extends well beyond what's visible in today's footage.
